A chipped tooth, a small gap, or a spot of discoloration can bother you every time you smile, even if no one else notices it. Dental bonding offers a quick, conservative way to fix these small imperfections without the cost or time of more involved treatments.
Dental bonding uses a tooth-colored composite resin that we apply directly to the surface of your tooth. Because the material is soft and moldable when first applied, we can shape it by hand to close a gap, rebuild a chipped edge, or even out an uneven tooth. Once we’re happy with the shape, we harden it with a curing light so it sets firmly in place.
The whole process usually takes less than an hour per tooth and requires little to no removal of your existing enamel. After a final polish, the bonded area blends in with the rest of your smile, so the change looks natural rather than obviously “done.”
Bonding uses a putty-like composite resin that we shape and sculpt directly onto your tooth, then harden with a special light. Bonding fuses your natural tooth enamel with the bonding material to create a strong structure that looks great, and unlike veneers, it typically does not require removing any of your natural tooth structure.
Most bonding treatments are completed in one appointment, with no lab work or waiting period required.
Unlike veneers, bonding typically requires little to no removal of your existing tooth enamel.
Bonding is often a more budget-friendly option compared to porcelain veneers, making it a good starting point for smaller cosmetic concerns.
Bonding works best for minor cosmetic concerns rather than larger structural issues. It’s a good fit if you’re dealing with a small chip, a gap between two teeth, slight discoloration, or a tooth that’s a little shorter or more uneven than the others. Because the resin is added directly to your existing tooth, there’s very little preparation involved, and the results are visible right away.
If you have more significant damage, deep staining, or want a more dramatic change across several teeth, we may recommend porcelain veneers or another option instead. During your visit, we’ll look at what you’re hoping to improve and let you know honestly whether bonding is the right tool for the job.
No. Bonding usually does not require anesthesia since little to no tooth structure is removed. Most patients feel only light pressure during the process.
Bonding can last several years with proper care, though it may need touch-ups sooner than veneers or crowns since the material is softer.
Composite resin can pick up stains from coffee, tea, or tobacco use over time. Avoiding these where possible and maintaining good oral hygiene helps it stay looking its best.
Since bonding is typically considered cosmetic, coverage varies by plan. We can help you understand your specific coverage before treatment.
Bonding works well for minor chips, gaps, or discoloration. During your exam, we can discuss whether bonding or another option like veneers would better fit your goals.
Small imperfections can have an outsized effect on how you feel about your smile, which is exactly why bonding exists. It’s one of the fastest ways we can make a visible difference without asking you to commit to something bigger than you need.
