Dental Sealants

Cavities often form in the deep grooves of your back teeth, where a toothbrush cannot always reach. Dental sealants create a smooth, protective barrier over those grooves.

A Legacy of Preventative Care

A simple, protective coating that stops decay before it starts.

At Tina Panchal DMD, LLC, we recommend dental sealants as part of a proactive approach to preventative dental care. Dr. Tina Panchal treats patients of all ages, from toddlers through seniors, and has built a practice in Edison rooted in her family’s decades-long reputation for approachable, thorough dental care. Her father, Dr. Nalin Panchal, treated the local community as an orthodontist for over 35 years, and that same commitment to long-term oral health shapes how our team approaches prevention today.

Why Sealants Are Beneficial

A dental sealant is a thin coating applied directly onto the chewing surface of a back tooth. Once it hardens, it creates a smooth, protective layer over the pits and grooves where bacteria tend to collect. According to the CDC, sealants can prevent up to 80% of cavities for two years after application and continue protecting against 50% of cavities for up to four years.

Quick, Comfortable Application

There is no drilling and no anesthesia required. Most patients are back to eating and drinking normally within minutes.

Effective for
Every Age

Sealants are ideal for children right after their molars come in, but adults with deep grooves or a history of cavities can benefit too.

Pairs With Regular
Cleanings

We check sealants at your regular cleanings and check-ups and can reapply one if it has worn down.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

A sealant appointment fits easily into a standard visit and does not require any special preparation. During your exam, we look at the depth and shape of the grooves on your back teeth to determine whether sealants would help protect them. If sealants are recommended, applying them usually takes just a few minutes per tooth, and you can eat and drink normally right after.

Is Getting a Dental Sealant Painful?

No. Applying a sealant does not involve drilling, numbing, or removing any tooth structure. Most patients feel little more than a light brushing sensation on the tooth.

How Long Does a Sealant Application Take?

Sealing a single tooth usually takes just a few minutes. Multiple teeth can be sealed in the same visit, often as part of a routine cleaning appointment.

Does Insurance Cover Dental Sealants?

Many dental insurance plans include coverage for sealants, particularly for children and teens. We accept a wide range of PPO plans and can help you understand your specific coverage before treatment.

How Long Do Sealants Last?

Sealants can last several years with normal wear. We check them at your regular visits and can repair or reapply a sealant if it becomes worn or chipped over time.

Can Adults Get Dental Sealants, Not Just Children?

Yes. While sealants are most common in children right after their molars come in, adults with deep grooves in their back teeth or a history of cavities can also benefit from sealants at any age.

Protect Your Smile With Tina Panchal DMD, LLC

Prevention has always been part of how this practice approaches dentistry, and that starts with Dr. Tina Panchal’s own training at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. She’s been treating Edison families since 2015, working from the same values her father built his 35-year orthodontic practice on: catching problems early and keeping care personal.
