A cracked, weakened, or heavily filled tooth can be at risk of further damage if it isn’t protected. A dental crown covers the tooth completely, restoring its strength and shape. We custom-fit every crown to blend naturally with your smile.
Protecting your tooth while restoring its natural appearance.
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a tooth, covering it completely from the gumline up. Unlike a filling, which repairs a portion of a tooth, a crown replaces the entire visible surface, giving a weakened or damaged tooth the strength and shape it needs to function normally again. Crowns are shaped and shaded to match your surrounding teeth, so the result blends in rather than standing out.
Getting a crown typically involves shaping the affected tooth so the crown fits securely over it, taking an impression, and fitting the finished crown once it’s ready. Once it’s in place, a crown can protect the tooth from further damage while restoring the way it looks and feels when you bite and chew.
A crown may be the right option if a tooth has a large filling with little natural structure left, has cracked or broken, is severely worn down, or needs to anchor a bridge. During your exam, we can determine whether a crown or another treatment fits your situation best.
When a filling takes up most of a tooth, a crown can hold the tooth together and prevent it from cracking.
A crown covers and protects a damaged tooth, restoring its strength so it can function normally again.
Crowns are placed on the teeth next to a gap to support and hold a dental bridge securely in place.
Getting a crown typically takes place over two visits. At your first appointment, we prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping it so the crown fits securely, then take an impression and place a temporary crown to protect the tooth while your permanent one is made. You may notice some mild sensitivity during this time, which is normal.
At your second visit, we remove the temporary crown and check the fit, bite, and color of the permanent one before cementing it in place. Once it’s set, you can eat and drink normally, and with regular care, your new crown can function like the rest of your natural teeth for years to come.
We numb the area before shaping the tooth, so the procedure itself is generally comfortable. You may notice mild sensitivity for a few days afterward, which is normal.
A well-fitted crown can last many years, often a decade or more, with regular brushing, flossing, and check-ups.
Yes. Crowns are custom-shaded and shaped to blend in with your surrounding teeth so the result looks natural.
Many dental insurance plans include some coverage for crowns, particularly when they are needed to protect or restore a damaged tooth. We accept a wide range of PPO plans and can help you understand your specific coverage before treatment.
We place a temporary crown after your first appointment to protect the tooth while your permanent crown is being made, so you can eat and function normally in the meantime.
A crown is one of the most reliable ways to save a tooth that might otherwise need to be extracted. We take the time to make sure yours fits comfortably and looks natural, so it becomes a lasting part of your smile rather than something you have to think about.
